Pray for Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, North Carolina
We are praying for Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, North Carolina
Founded in 1729 as “Parker’s Meeting House” by Rev. Joseph Parker, Meherrin Baptist Church stands as the second oldest Baptist church in North Carolina. The first house of worship was erected in 1735 with the help of neighbors and friends and was dedicated to the glory of God. Throughout its nearly three centuries of ministry, Meherrin Baptist has played a pivotal role in Baptist life across the state. It was the birthplace of the North Carolina General Meeting of Correspondence in 1803, which later merged into what became the Baptist State Convention. Historic meetings were held within its walls in 1808, 1813, and again in 1842 when the North Carolina Baptist State Convention gathered there for a memorial meeting.
Known as a “mother church” to many congregations in the surrounding region, Meherrin Baptist Church has long been marked by visionary leadership and a loving, caring church family. The congregation honors its rich past while looking forward with excitement and faith toward the future God has prepared for them.
Under the leadership of Pastor John Porter, the church continues to serve its community faithfully. Pastor John is married to his wife, Ashley, and together they are raising their two sons, Caleb and Nathan. The church is currently preparing for Community Lenten Services, an important outreach opportunity that brings believers together during the Easter season.
Prayer Requests:
-
Pray for Pastor John as he leads the congregation with wisdom, strength, and clarity.
-
Pray for discernment and unity as the church seeks wisdom regarding the possible purchase of additional property.
-
Pray that the upcoming Community Lenten Services would draw people closer to Christ and strengthen gospel partnerships throughout Murfreesboro and the surrounding area.
Pray that this historic congregation continue to stand as a faithful lighthouse for generations to come.
