I\u2019ve actually assembled more than ten things church members have told pastors immediately after they preached. But these are ten responses where pastors have had the most visceral reactions.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u201cI am going to be late for lunch because you preached so long.\u201d<\/li>\n
  2. \u201cYou must not have had much time to prepare that sermon.\u201d<\/li>\n
  3. \u201cMy former pastor preached a much better sermon from that text.\u201d<\/li>\n
  4. \u201cI wish {fill in the blank<\/span>} would have heard that sermon.\u201d<\/li>\n
  5. \u201cYou act like you weren\u2019t feeling well while you preached.\u201d<\/li>\n
  6. \u201cI\u2019m sorry I fell asleep while you were preaching. Your voice just puts me to sleep.\u201d<\/li>\n
  7. \u201cYour subject\/verb agreement was incorrect three times in your sermon.\u201d<\/li>\n
  8. \u201cI wish you wouldn\u2019t preach from the Old Testament.\u201d<\/li>\n
  9. \u201cLet me tell you what you missed in your sermon.\u201d<\/li>\n
  10. \u201cAre we ever going to be done with this sermon series?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Pastors often take 10 to 20 hours to prepare a sermon. They pray for God to speak through them. They preach with conviction and fervency. And then they hear one of these sentences.<\/p>\n

    These ten responses are close approximations of what pastors have actually told me. I am sure there are many more.
