{"id":805851,"date":"2023-06-06T05:00:47","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T10:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/churchanswers.com\/?p=805851"},"modified":"2024-05-29T15:10:22","modified_gmt":"2024-05-29T20:10:22","slug":"8-things-that-would-happen-if-we-truly-viewed-the-word-of-god-as-sweet-like-honey-to-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/churchanswers.com\/blog\/8-things-that-would-happen-if-we-truly-viewed-the-word-of-god-as-sweet-like-honey-to-us\/","title":{"rendered":"8 Things that Would Happen if We Truly Viewed the Word of God as Sweet like Honey to Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I realize this post is a bit unusual for this site, but I want us to think about this truth: we who seek to lead churches toward growth and revitalization <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">must love and obey <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Word if we want God to bless our efforts. With that truth in mind, I am mindful today of the psalmist\u2019s view of the Word:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey [the laws of the Lord] are sweeter than <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">honey<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, even <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">honey<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dripping from the comb.\u201d (Ps. 19:10).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHow sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">honey.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (Ps. 119:103).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The psalmist felt that way, but I\u2019m not convinced all of us are. At least, I know I\u2019m not always there. Here, though, are some things that would happen in our lives if we truly saw the Word of God this way:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><b>We would read the Word more.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> That\u2019s because it\u2019s so sweet to us. No matter how busy we are, we would make the time to read it. Even a few minutes tasting the Word would encourage and change us.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>We would hunger for it.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It would be so potent in our lives that our soul would long each day to meet God through His Word. We would crave Him more and more each day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>We could never get enough of it.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Even if we were to \u201ceat\u201d it every day, we would want more. The Word is so sweet that the more we get, the more we want; it both quenches our hunger and increases it at the same time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>We would miss it when we don\u2019t read it.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Gone would be the days when we simply neglected reading the Bible. We would not rest well knowing that we had missed the opportunity to taste its sweetness on a given day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>We would no longer be enamored by what the world offers us to \u201ctaste.\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We chase temporary stuff that might taste sweet for a moment, but burns us in the end. All those things would lose their power once we\u2019ve tasted the true sweetness of God\u2019s Word.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>We would delight more in teaching the Word. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the Lord\u2019s teachings are so powerful in our own lives, we can\u2019t wait to teach others. We would want those we lead to have the same experience with the Lord and His Word.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Others would take note of our passion.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The godliest, Spirit-filled leaders I know have the Word of God dripping from their lips. They <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">live <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the Word\u2014and it\u2019s noticeable. That\u2019s what would happen in our lives if the Word truly were sweet to us.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Our churches would be stronger.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> That happens any time we leaders deepen our own walk with the Lord. What the Lord does in us then spills over into the lives of those we shepherd. The sheep will then also find the Word to be sweet like honey\u2014and hunger for more.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How about you?
