Not in the \u201cfill-in-the-blank\u201d kind of way, but in the deep, heart-exposing, identity-shaping kind of way. You step into leadership with a clear call, a hopeful heart, and the best of intentions, only to find yourself face-to-face with moments that challenge everything you thought you knew\u2014about God, about people, and about yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And maybe that\u2019s the point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">does<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> test us\u2014not to shame us or push us away\u2014but to reveal where our trust lies and what we&#8217;re really leading people toward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>God Isn\u2019t Just Looking at Our Ministry\u2014He\u2019s Looking at Our Hearts<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Exodus, God rescues His people with miraculous power. He parts the seas. He crushes Pharaoh\u2019s army. He brings them out of slavery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But freedom didn\u2019t mean ease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just weeks into their journey, they\u2019re hungry, thirsty, and unsure. And that\u2019s when the tests begin. Not because God was being harsh\u2014but because He was after their hearts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Lord\u2014the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth.\u201d \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exodus 34:6<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That verse\u2014right there\u2014is our anchor. God\u2019s testing isn\u2019t cruel. It\u2019s compassionate. He\u2019s not trying to trip us up. He\u2019s helping us walk upright.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Test #1: Will You Remember What God Has Done?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before they ever hit the dry places, God showed up:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">saw<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heard<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">knew<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> their suffering (Exodus 3:7\u20138).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He acted with covenant power (Exodus 6:6\u20137).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He fought for them at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13\u201314).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They worshiped Him for the victory (Exodus 15:1\u20133).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But as soon as things got uncomfortable, they forgot. And honestly\u2014so do we.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We forget the answered prayers, the open doors, the healing, the clarity. We forget how God brought us through that last hard thing, and instead of trust, we grumble.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The question is not: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWill you pass the test?\u201d<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The real question is: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWill you remember who God has already proven Himself to be?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Test #2: What Do You Do with Bitterness?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three days after the Red Sea miracle, they hit their first challenge\u2014bitter water (Exodus 15:22\u201327). Their instinct? Complain. Moses\u2019 instinct? Cry out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God\u2019s response? A miracle and a promise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leadership will bring bitter places\u2014seasons where expectations die, people disappoint, and things don\u2019t taste like you thought they would.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But God doesn\u2019t waste bitterness. He transforms it. And in that test, He reveals whether we will lead from cynicism or dependence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Test #3: Can You Trust God with Just Enough?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the people hunger, God sends manna\u2014but only enough for today (Exodus 16). No stockpiling. No strategy. Just daily bread.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And isn\u2019t that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> leadership test?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want long-term plans, well-oiled systems, backup volunteers, and financial padding. But God often gives just what we need <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for today<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014so that we\u2019ll come back tomorrow with empty hands and expectant hearts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God isn\u2019t interested in building our confidence in our leadership. He\u2019s interested in building our confidence in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Him.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Test #4: Will You Obey When It Makes No Sense?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Exodus 17, the people are thirsty again. This time, God tells Moses to strike a rock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A rock!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s not a normal source of water\u2014but God provides. Because His provision often flows from obedience, not logic. Leadership will include moments that don\u2019t make sense. God will ask you to take risks, to speak up, to forgive, to wait, to give more than you have.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And those moments? They reveal what you\u2019re really trusting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Don\u2019t Run From the Test\u2014Lean Into It<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hebrews 3 warns us about what happened at Massah and Meribah, where the people hardened their hearts in the wilderness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWatch out\u2026so that there won\u2019t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.\u201d \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hebrews 3:12<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That unbelief is never far off. It\u2019s just one discouraging email. One failed event. One unmet expectation away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friend, if you\u2019re feeling tested in your leadership right now\u2014don\u2019t run. This isn\u2019t about passing or failing. This isn\u2019t about performance. This is about faith. God is giving you an opportunity\u2014not to prove yourself\u2014but to trust Him. Let this be the season where dependence deepens. Let it be the moment where you stop striving and start surrendering.
