Consequently, I began to pay attention to how Christian men lived. I listened to how they prayed in Sunday school, in worship services, and at fellowship meals. I watched how they treated their families when they occasionally invited me to Sunday lunch at their homes. I paid attention when they spoke up in church business meetings (even though the business meetings themselves were incredibly boring, as I recall). If they invited me to visit church members and\/or guests with them, I jumped at the opportunity\u2014and I watched how they interacted with others. Seldom did they realize I was watching them when they faced grief, got angry, confessed wrong, or celebrated victories, but I continually watched. I watched them so I might grow. I imitated others because I saw in them what I assumed real Christianity was to be. That pattern has not changed over the years. Now 64 years old, I still watch for godly men whose lives I might emulate. I pay attention to men who likely could say with the apostle Paul, \u201cImitate me, as I also imitate Christ\u201d (1 Cor 11:1). They live like Christ, and I want to live like them.
