As Church & Company, we are—beyond event planners, designers, and artists, a restoration project. We pride ourselves in the work that we do to breathe new life to old buildings, and will continue to partner with owners and organizations, engage with historic preservation groups around the city, as well as help start arts programming that center around these beautiful properties and their history.
We currently host events out of Branch No. 3 on Light Street, and have recently partnered with Mill No. 1 on a property on Falls Road. We also work out of a 1/4 acre of land on West 37th Street, called The Garden House, where we have helped start a small-scale flower farm and community project.
A Look Back
We've hosted and planned everything from styled shoots and small ceremonies to cocktail parties and large wedding receptions. We are always looking to create unique and memorable experience for our guests and clients.
Branch No. 3
1401 Light Street
Baltimore Maryland — 21230
Our flagship location, and our base of operations is Branch No. 3. This brick and stone building, located at 1401 Light Street is one of four original structures of the Enoch Pratt Free Library System, all designed in a Richardsonian Romanesque style by the noted architect Charles Carson. The library opened on Feb. 27, 1886, and closed on Sept. 1, 1971, when a new library opened at 1251 Light Street. It was sold by the city as surplus property and has been a private residence and a gallery, among other things.
We acquired the library in November of 2016. Our plans are to furnish the main hall and back offices in a style that reflects the architecture and period of the building.
The space includes a full kitchen within a 1,000 square foot ballroom, as well as a 600 square foot hall in the back of the building that features bookshelves, a bar, and unique accents. The building also houses a staging area for couples in the library's old Reading Room that includes a beautiful working fireplace, and access to a small courtyard in the back of the building. Our long term plans for the basement will include two extra bathrooms, bar and lounge areas, as well as artist studios and wine cellars for private tastings.
