We are praying for First Baptist Church in Oakboro, North Carolina
Today we are praying for First Baptist Church in Oakboro, North Carolina. Located at the heart of this small but growing community, the church has been serving the town almost since its founding. The congregation built its current Main Street sanctuary in 1951, later adding a fellowship building and a youth space to support expanding ministry. With the town experiencing steady growth from nearby Charlotte, North Carolina, the church is now preparing for the future through a building process that will include a new sanctuary and renovated discipleship space in the coming years.
Oakboro is a classic small-town community of just under 3,000 residents, known for events like a large Fourth of July festival, a Christmas parade, Veterans Day celebrations, classic car cruise-ins, and National Day of Prayer gatherings. While there are about twenty churches in the town, the mission field remains wide open as young families continue moving to the area. First Baptist Oakboro is seeing this demographic shift reflected in its own congregation. Though the church averages about 145 in Sunday worship, their Wednesday night ministry, called The Gathering Place, draws about 123 people each week, with nearly half under the age of eighteen.
Please also pray for Pastor Jonathan Waits, his wife Lisa, and their three sons—Noah (17), Josiah (15), and Micah (12)—as they lead and serve this growing congregation.
An important outreach opportunity is coming soon. On Sunday, March 29, the church will host a large community Easter Egg Hunt, hiding thousands of eggs and inviting families from across the community. Along with the fun, the event will include a clear gospel presentation and opportunities for church members to have meaningful spiritual conversations with families who may not currently have a church home.
How You Can Pray:
• Pray that remaining obstacles in the church’s building process will be removed and that a clear path forward will emerge.
• Pray that the many students attending Wednesday nights will hear and experience the transforming power of the gospel.
• Pray that the new youth minister will be filled with the Holy Spirit and lead the growing ministry with humility and wisdom.
• Pray that the church will be prepared to receive and disciple the new families God is bringing.
• Pray that members will continue to invite others and warmly welcome guests into the life of the church.
