Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church is a congregation with a powerful legacy and an even more hopeful vision for the future. Now 166 years old, Mt. Zion was founded by freed Black Americans and formerly enslaved Africans, standing as a faithful witness to the gospel through generations of change, hardship, and renewal. Situated on the Southside of St. Louis, the church continues to serve a neighborhood that is actively being redeveloped, with shifting demographics and new opportunities for gospel-centered ministry. Their vision is to be “rooted in faith, building sound minds.”

Mt. Zion stewards a ministry complex that includes early childhood education and senior housing, reflecting a deep commitment to serving people at both the beginning and later stages of life. The church is preparing for a significant step forward with the upcoming launch of the Greenhouse Learning Academy, an early childhood education center designed to send children to school ready to read and write.

Mt. Zion is led by Rev. Dr. John K. Coar, who is married and the father of two children. Please lift him and his family in prayer as they lead with faith, wisdom, and endurance during this pivotal season.
